PRP Hair Treatment

PRP Hair Treatment Leeds

PRP is short for Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy. It is also known as Autologous Conditioned Plasma. At our Leeds Clinic we use PRP injections in order to combat hair loss and as a post transplant top up as hair loss can be devastating for your self-esteem and confidence.

PRP works by harnessing your own blood’s healing abilities and growth factors in order to stimulate the existing follicles to grow more in the areas to be treated/injected. The process starts by taking a small sample of your blood. This is then spun in a centrifuge machine that separates the blood cells, serum and platelets.

The platelet rich plasma is then extracted and injected directly back into the areas of the scalp that require it. The scalp then starts to repair itself by stimulating cells to generate new tissue from the growth factors that the PRP platelets release. This treatment stimulates new cell growth, and is effective at improving hair growth. If you don’t wish to take medication and want to improve hair growth, it is the ideal solution.

What Can PRP Do for You?

Platelet-Rich Plasma therapy is delivered via an injection to the hair loss site. It helps your blood to use their growth factors and stimulate hair growth. It can give your hair follicles extra strength or reinvigorate any follicles that have become dormant. As well as being used as an individual treatment, it’s also excellent for use after a hair transplant.

Using PRP treatment can help to reduce redness, inflammation, and scabs. It gives newly transplanted hair follicles a better chance to flourish.

How Does the PRP Treatment Work?

So, how does PRP treatment work to stimulate hair growth? The procedure begins by extracting a small amount of blood from the patient. Don’t worry; it’s less than 50ml. Once the blood has been obtained, it is placed into a centrifugal machine. The force of the machine isolates the Platelet-Rich Plasma from the blood.

The PRP then undergoes “activation” using DNA activators. It’s also enriched with calcium ions, such as calcium chloride. Once the PRP has gone through this process, an injection applies it to the area that requires hair loss treatment.

What Results Can You Expect?

Like many types of therapy and medical treatment, there are no guarantees when it comes to PRP treatment. Each case is assessed individually, with some achieving more desirable results than others. It can take some time to see meaningful results after starting the therapy.

Many of our patients report excellent results that they are very happy with. Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment by the Leeds Hair Transplant Clinic could be for you. Look at some opinions of former and current patients, and discuss with our hair transplant specialist whether PRP is right for you.

Who Is It For?

Platelet Rich Plasma treatment for hair loss isn’t for everyone. There are a few circumstances that would prevent you from having it. For example, it is not recommended if you have a history of heavy smoking, drinking or drug use. Platelet dysfunction syndromes and other medical diagnoses can prevent you from having the treatment.

However, most people are suitable for the treatment and can see excellent results. The safe procedure is ideal for anyone who isn’t suitable for surgery or doesn’t want it. It’s also a great complement to a hair transplant to aid in healing and growth.
